Seniors in good standing will have the opportunity to work with a business, public agency, or service organization of their choosing. Instead of going to class during the last few weeks of school, Bridging Bruins interns will go to work. To be considered, please complete the interest form."

Bridging Bruins Overview
An internship is defined as a short-term opportunity for a student to gain valuable hands-on experience in a field of study/interest. An internship has many invaluable benefits for students while also enriching academic programs. Students are able to identify career fields that fit, as well as those that don’t. They also gain valuable employability skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication within the context of the workplace.
In addition, students are meeting and networking with professionals in their potential field, which significantly improves their chances of securing permanent employment and future academic opportunities upon graduation from Lake Braddock Secondary School. To stay competitive internships are no longer an option, but a necessity.
Bridging Bruins Roles
An effective internship program involves a few key players: the student intern, the on-site supervisor, and the faculty mentor.
Student Intern
Student interns are responsible for searching for, applying to, and completing the internship. It is the student intern’s responsibility to submit all necessary paperwork by the appropriate deadlines.
On-Site Supervisor
The on-site supervisor is responsible for overseeing the work of the student intern. Ideally, this person will serve as a mentor to the student, offering helpful advice about the industry or field and ways to succeed in a professional environment. It is also important for the on-site supervisor to have experience and knowledge in the area in which the student is interning. The on-site supervisor should also provide feedback on the intern’s work throughout the duration of the internship.
Faculty Mentor
The faculty mentor is responsible for helping the intern integrate the internship into a total academic experience. It is important for the intern to meet with his or her faculty mentor prior to starting the internship. Faculty mentors can also serve as a helpful resource in identifying possible internship sites and locations that would appropriately fit the student’s academic and professional needs. The faculty mentor will maintain weekly contact with the intern providing direction and support as needed. At the end of the internship, the faculty mentor will be asked to comment on the intern’s learning based on a culminating activity and feedback from the on-site supervisor. Mentors will participate in an end-of-year intern share fair. Faculty mentors will receive 10 recertification points.
