Global Classroom Project

Our Collaboration with the American International School of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,

LBSS students will collaborate with peers from the American International School of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia to exchange ideas, learn about each other's cultures and educational practices, and explore solutions to overcome barriers to quality education.

What is the Global Classroom Project?

Elementary, middle, and high schools throughout Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) participate in the Global Classroom Project, which provides an opportunity for students to work with peers from around the world on authentic tasks and challenges.

As part of the Global Classroom Project, schools select a Sustainable Development Goal from among 17 goals established by the United Nations as a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet.

Throughout the Global Classroom Project, students also learn attributes of Portrait of a Graduate, which prioritizes the development of skills that will empower FCPS students to be productive citizens of a global community and successful in the workforce of the future.

FCPS Portrait of a Graduate Attribute(s): Global and Ethical Citizen, Collaborator, Creative and Critical Thinker

Partner School Teacher: Lea Anne Eaton

Partnership Description: After learning about each other and s:chooling from around the world, students from both classes create a 5-10 minute lesson (each) to be recorded and shared across classes (classroom or TED Talk style). Topics can be from American history or focus on one of the SDGs. Students will share their lesson with at least 2 people outside of the classroom and assess their “students” understanding before and after the lesson. After their lessons, students will reflect (via video, infographic, or in writing): 1) what goes into quality lesson/education, 2) what barriers did they encounter creating quality lessons, 3) how are those barriers the same/different in different places, 4) what ideas do they have to overcome barriers to education. Videos and infographics will be shared classroom to classroom, with families, and schoolwide where appropriate.
