JROTC Student FAQs

  1. How would you briefly describe / summarize the elective you teach?
    • JROTC is a better citizenship program with emphasis on leadership and discipline. The JROTC's mission is to "To Motivate Young People to Be Better Citizens". Retired Military Members teach the program by each branch, but it DOES NOT demand or require students to enlist or commission for military service. 
    • The course focuses on how to become a better citizen through values, leadership skills, communication skills, and collaboration skills. Students will have the opportunity to show their followership skills as well as their ability to lead others.
    • Students also learn drill and ceremony, uniform regulation, problem solving, fitness, first aid for emergency and Non-Emergency situations through (SMARTCadet online interface), leadership strategies and presenting skills, planning skills, and foundations for success. 
    • JROTC offers non-mandatory extra-curricular activities after school to fit most all of students listed below:
      1. Drill Team
      2. Academic and Leadership Quiz Bowl Teams
      3. Land Navigation / Orienteering
      4. Raider Team (Physical Activities Team)
      5. Color Guard
      6. Sabre Guard
      7. Flag Detail
    • JROTC also offers Annual Events:
      1. Homecoming Parade (participants will earn an award for their uniform).
      2. Joint Military Ball (participants will earn an award for their uniform).
      3. End of year award ceremony and change of command.
