ORGANIZATION AND MATERIALS

Calendars

English, history, math and science teachers will post important dates for tests and projects in their classrooms and on Blackboard. Students will bring planners to every class and will record homework in them. Parents are encouraged to monitor their child’s progress.

Supplies Provided

During the first week of school, a Lake Braddock Secondary School assignment book will be distributed to each of our students. Students must carry the assignment notebook to every class. We encourage students to use the assignment book every day.

Supplies to Purchase

One of the many advantages of being on a team is the consolidation of supplies.  Our team is requiring the following supplies.  They should be maintained and replenished throughout the entire school year.

Four 1 ½“ binders (different color for each core subject)

Ruler

20 tab dividers

Eraser and small pencil sharpener with a cover

Notebook paper, standard (wide) ruled, no spiral paper

Small stapler

¼ inch graph paper (1 package)

2 composition notebooks

Large supply of #2 pencils

One pack of 3” x 5” index cards

Large supply of dark blue or black ballpoint pens

One roll of transparent tape

Set of colored pencils

One large zippered pencil pouch/supply bag

Colored markers

Two boxes of tissues to give to any core teacher

Colored markers

Two boxes of tissues to give to any core teacher

1 Spiral notebook, approximately 100 pages

Disinfecting wipes (not sanitizing gel)

1 two pocket folder (Homework Folder)

Please mark your child’s name on all items brought to school (school supplies, lunch boxes, jackets, etc.). An enormous number of items end up in the Lost and Found each week and go unclaimed. Items with names marked on them can be returned to the owners.

We recommend that students keep additional school supplies at home to facilitate completion of homework and projects.

During the first week of school, students will be asked to complete forms requiring the following information:  complete home address(es), home phone number(s), parent’s place of work, current work phone number(s), and email. Please assist your student by providing this information in advance. You might consider providing this on an index card for easy reference.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Students must bring their planner, paper, pencils, and pens to each of their core classes. Teachers will not supply materials; therefore, students are to bring all their essential materials and textbooks to class every day.

Punctuality is expected from all students for all classes. Three tardies in the same class in any quarter will result in administrative involvement.

Homework assignments are designed to strengthen student skills and knowledge.

When a student returns from an absence, it is his/her responsibility to check Blackboard, request all assignments from each teacher, and discuss a schedule for turning in assignments. Discuss planned absences in advance with teachers and with the Subschool 1 Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Gordon, 703-426-1111. Parents should call the 7th grade attendance line 703-426-1182 to report an absence. A student’s absence will not be excused if a parent does not phone the attendance line within 48 hours.

Appropriate language, clothing, and behavior are expected at all times. Teachers, as well as students, will be treated in a respectful and courteous manner by all.

The Golden Knights promote Lake Braddock’s five Core Values of Respect, Integrity, Commitment, Responsibility & Compassion. Our expectation is that our students will demonstrate these core values in their academic, personal and social lives.

AFTER-SCHOOL HELP

After-school help is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, which are late bus days. Students need to consult with teachers at least 24 hours in advance to arrange for after-school help.

We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning together. Please feel free to contact us at any time during the year to discuss your child’s progress. Our team consists of students, teachers, parents, administrators, counselors and librarians working together to ensure a productive and successful year for all of us.

We hope to see you at Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 5th.  At that time, you will learn more information about Golden Knights t-shirts, Honor Flight field trip, Science Watershed Field Trip, Parent Coffees, and many other amazing opportunities for your student and/or for yourself.

We hope to see you and your family at our 12th annual Golden Knight Tailgate outside Entrance 16. It will be on Friday, October 5th against Robinson. The teachers will provide the hot dogs-please bring your own sides and drinks. More details to come!

Feel free to follow Mr. Wickham on social media @MrWickhamLB for updates and more.
