Standards for Members
Lake Braddock Chapter of the National Honor Society

The National Honor Society at Lake Braddock Secondary School is an organization that promotes appropriate recognition for its students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

Members must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 to remain in NHS.

All members must complete at least 8 hours of approved community service per semester.  If you are unsure of what constitutes “approved” service, see the NHS advisor  (also refer to the NHS Service Hour Form).  Members cannot receive NHS service for hours of service that are counted towards the service requirements of another organization. Service hours will not carry over from year to year, but they may carry over from semester to semester. Members should keep a personal copy of any service hour forms turned in, in case a discrepancy may arise.

Dues are $20.00 for all new members and are payable by the Induction Ceremony.

NHS members are expected to maintain the highest standards of ethical and moral behavior. Members with minor disciplinary problems (i.e., use of profanity, unexcused absences, excessive tardies, etc.) may be placed on probation.  Members with flagrant disciplinary problems may be dismissed without warning (i.e., without probation). These flagrant violations include, but are not limited to: driving while intoxicated; stealing; destruction of property; cheating; forging note (misrepresentation); truancy; fighting; or possession, selling, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  Members who fail to maintain the minimum GPA, fail to pay dues, or fail to complete service hours may be placed on probation.  Failure to correct any probation may result in dismissal. Members that receive a second probation during their membership are also subject to dismissal.  You cannot reapply or be reinstated into NHS if you are dismissed.

Members are responsible for seeking information concerning their status. They should check Lake Braddock Secondary School website (under Students menu) and BlackBoard regularly for information, and are required to attend all general membership meetings.
