Lake Braddock Secondary School Honor Council Process

The student is involved in a possible Honor Code violation.

The teacher speaks to the student about the incident.

The teacher fills out an Honor Code referral which notifies the Honor Council chairperson.

The teacher prints out two copies of the referral, gives one copy to the student, and keeps one copy on file.

The teacher sends an email to the student’s parents/guardians notifying them of the referral.

The student has two days to get the referral signed by his parent/guardian and return the referral to the teacher. If the referral is not returned the student will automatically receive the consequences outlined in the Honor Code.

If the student disputes the referral:

The student provides a written statement, of no more than 250 words, explaining why he believes that he did not violate the Honor Code. This statement will be reviewed by the Honor Council.

The Honor Council chairperson assigns the referral to the next available date that the Honor Council convenes, collates all supporting documentation for the Honor Council, and notifies all parties of the Council’s decision.

If the student does not disputes the referral:

The student will automatically receive consequences outlined in the Honor Code.

The Honor Council chairperson files the referral, assigns consequences, and notifies all parties of the Council’s decision.

Additional Information:

  • The Honor Council will meet monthly to begin with.
  • All evidence will be written; referring teacher, or student, will not appear before the Honor Council.
  • The Honor Council process is confidential; student and teacher names will be redacted from the documentation being reviewed by the council.
