craig whitesellCongratulations to Mathematics Teacher Craig Whitesell who was recognized at the annual FCPS Honors event as the 2019 Region 4 Outstanding Secondary New Teacher and one of five finalists for this year's Outstanding Secondary New Teacher Award!

Since starting at Lake Braddock Secondary School three years ago, Mr. Whitesell has brought innovative ideas and enthusiasm helping his students view math in new and unique ways. Whether it is Algebra II students completing the Math Journey project, thinking deeply about their relationship with Math and creating a graphical representation of this relationship, or AP Statistics students manipulating census data in excel comparing minority populations across cities, Mr. Whitesell works tirelessly to make sure his students see the patterns and math in the world around them. He continues to promote efficacy through his caring, patient nature which has caught the eye of both colleagues and administrators. One teacher describes him as “consistently encouraging and hopeful” both in the classroom and out.

Congratulations to After School Specialist Alexandra Bryan who was recognized at the annual FCPS Honors event as the 2019 Region 4 Outstanding Leader and one of five finalists for this year's Outstanding Leader Award!

alex bryanWhen Ms. Bryan became the After-School Specialist and Building Use Coordinator at Lake Braddock SS, she brought with her her sense of compassion and creativity. She has implemented many long-lasting programs in her short time. All these programs; Stress Less Laugh More Week, After-School Program Kickoff Party and LBMS v SCMS Basketball Fundraiser, have left a positive impact on the student body, faculty and community. If you were to walk the halls or soccer fields, you would see the outstanding rapport she has with students and athletes, always smiling and laughing. What drives her is her “give all” mentality in wanting to create the best experiences for students and staff.

Congratulations as well to High School Music Teacher Andrea Harmon who was recognized as a School and Pyramid-Level Outstanding Secondary Teacher.

Thank you to Laura Waterman for all of her hard work with the nomination process by serving as this year's awards liaison!
