In 2010, 2013 and 2016, the Lake Braddock High School Student Services program met the criteria to become a Recognized ASCA Model Program by the American School Counselor Association. A RAMP designated school counseling program must demonstrate a comprehensive, data-driven program that meets the needs of all students, and the designation is held for three years. Lake Braddock High School Counseling is one of the first RAMP Schools of Distinction, and was one of five schools to receive this award nationally in 2016.

The vision of the Lake Braddock Counseling Staff is for all students to attain their maximum potential in the areas of academic achievement, personal development, and post-secondary planning through data-driven programs that promote personal responsibility, integrity, respect, compassion, commitment and service to others.

The Lake Braddock High School Counseling staff collaborates with students, parents and staff members to prepare and inspire all students to achieve high standards of excellence. We provide a comprehensive developmental program that addresses the academic, social/emotional and college/career preparatory needs of our diverse student body. Empowering students to achieve their current and future goals, we encourage student self-advocacy and accountability. We also promote the development of citizenship that embraces excellence of character.

2023 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s School (SRGS)

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) offers the opportunity for 10th and 11th-grade students to apply to attend summer residential Governor’s schools in academics and Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) (dance, instrumental or vocal music, theater, or visual art). Students who are accepted into one of the programs will live in residence halls in one of the state colleges in VA for four weeks in the June - late July timeframe.

To be considered for an academic or VPA Governor’s school, students must complete the steps below.

1. Complete the interest form linked below for either Academics or VPA. The form is a required part of the application process and is due November 11th. No late entries will be accepted. When completing the form, enter a personal email address and do NOT use a fcpsschools.net email address. VDOE cannot send communications to the fcpsschools.net domain.

• Academic Interest form-Interest Meeting on Friday, November 4th during WIN time in Career Center (Academic/Mentorship only)
• Visual and Performing Arts Interest form

2. Complete the application for the specific program you wish to apply to and return it to your school counselor who is supervising the Governor’s School application process.

• Academic applications are due to the school on December 9, 2022
• VPA applications are due to the school on January 17, 2023
